The membership of the Academic Board comprises the UFT Dean (who acts as its chair), the Dean or Director of Studies of each of the partner Colleges, the Head (or nominee if the Head is not available) of each of the UFT Departments, the Research Coordinator, the Online Coordinator, and two representatives from the UFT student body (preferably one independent and one College student).
As a pro-active as well as a monitoring body, the Academic Board
a. implements and initiates policy in relation to academic matters, taking into account the requirements of the MCD;
b. takes initiative in promoting the academic life of the UFT, particularly in regard to curriculum development and research;
c. deals with all details concerning units and teachers forwarded to it by the Departments or Colleges, seeking approval of Senatus for any new teachers and reporting to Senatus its approval of any new units and Associate Teachers (see B11);
d. through the Dean, makes recommendations to the MCD in relation to academic matters including units and teachers;
e. on the basis of reports from the Departments, from time to time reviews the staffing needs of the UFT;
f. arranges its meetings in such a way as to facilitate the proper working of the UFT in relation to its teaching responsibilities;
g. reports regularly to the Senatus on its activities and decisions;
h. refers matters as appropriate to the UFT Council;
i. seeks the approval of the Senatus for any matters of new policy.
