 This unit is an ecumenical investigation of the liturgical understanding and practice of the two sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist, and the places in which they have been celebrated from the earliest days of the Church to the present time. The interaction of text, symbol, ritual, theology, architecture and culture is basic to this study. 

Description
Learning Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of this unit, it is expected that students will be able to:

  1. locate liturgical issues within a basic knowledge of the history and theology of the church
  2. respond theologically and liturgically to contemporary issues surrounding baptism, such as infant/adult candidacy, confirmation, chrismation and the catechumenate
  3. respond theologically and liturgically to contemporary issues in the celebration of the eucharist
  4. critique the design of space and furnishings of places for worship from a liturgical and theological perspective
  5. articulate the ordo of worship and design orders of service which are faithful to the church’s understanding of the sacraments.
