1. UFT Theological Student Association
The TSA Annual General Meeting will take place on 16 September 2009 at lunchtime (1pm). Please note this date in your diary and be sure to come along and support your fellow students. The TSA performs significant roles in relation to the life of the UFT, not least in providing student representatives for the UFT Academic Board and the Senatus. This is your chance to get involved. More details to follow in next week's eNews.
2. Submission of Essays
Students are reminded that essays should be submitted at the CTM Reception desk. Essays must bear a completed and signed assignment cover sheet (available from the UFT website > Important links > UFT forms, or from the CTM reception desk). If you require a receipt please be sure to complete the tear off slip at the bottom of the essay cover which will be dated and signed when you hand it in to the person on duty. From the first week of September the CTM reception area will have a new UFT Essay submission box that will be fully self-service. Students will be advised when this becomes available.
3. 2010 UFT units & timetable
The 2010 timetable and units will be available on the UFT website by mid-September, and the printed Handbook from late October. Enrolments for 2010 will open from beginning of November. Students will be able to download either an MCD application form or a re-enrolment form for 2010 at that time on the MCD website at http://www.mcd.edu.au/formsprospective
4. MCD Office
The MCD office at Kew will be closed on 27 August 2009.
5. UFT Prayer on Thursdays at 1.05pm
Join UFT staff and students for a short reflective service of bible readings and prayer in the CTM chapel this coming Thursday at 1.05pm for fifteen minutes.
6. University of Melbourne Thursday forums
Wes Campbell, chaplain at the University, is hosting a series of Thursday forums for 'brief but serious Christian thinking' from 1-2pm at the Alice Hoy Building (Education) room 330. Contact wesleyc@unimelb.edu.au. Coming events include Sean Winter 'The search for the 'real' Jesus' on 3 September, and Katharine Massam 'Postmodernism and Faith: Who's Afraid of Postmodernism' on 10 September.
7. Changing Attitude Australia
Changing Attitude Australia is holding three events: Peter Sherlock on the Anglican debates about homosexuality at St Mary's Anglican Church, Howard Street, North Melbourne on Thursday 27 August at 6.15pm; Roger Ferlo as guest preacher at a service at St John's Anglican Church, 5 Finch Street, East Malvern on Tuesday 1 September at 7.30pm (to be followed by the Changing Attitude AGM); and Roger Short on genetics, sexuality and religion on Thursday 24 September at 7.30pm at St Martin's Anglican Church, Hawksburn (corner Cromwell Road and Wilson St). 8. UFT Research Seminars
The UFT research seminars began this week with Professor Elsie McKee. They continue next week, resuming at the normal Wednesday lunchtime slot of 1.05 to 2pm in CTM room G3. The full program can be downloaded from the UFT website at www.uft.edu.au/content/research-seminars. On Wednesday 26 August, Chris Mostert of Uniting Church Theological College will present a paper entitled 'Salvation's setting: Election, justification and the Church', relating to work completed in first semester whilst he was on study leave. All welcome - and feel free to bring along your lunch to eat during the presentation!
