1.  UFT Theological Student Association
The TSA Annual General Meeting will take place on 16 September 2009 at lunchtime (1pm) at the CTM in room G2.  Please note this date in your diary and be sure to come along and support your fellow students. The TSA performs significant roles in relation to the life of the UFT, not least in providing student representatives for the UFT Academic Board and the Senatus. This is your chance to get involved. More details to follow in next week's eNews.

2. Submission of Essays
Students are reminded that essays should be submitted at the CTM Reception desk. Essays must bear a completed and signed assignment cover sheet (available from the UFT website > Important links > UFT forms, or from the CTM reception desk). If you require a receipt please be sure to complete the tear off slip at the bottom of the essay cover which will be dated and signed when you hand it in to the person on duty. From the first week of September the CTM reception area will have a new UFT Essay submission box that will be fully self-service.  Students will be advised when this becomes available.

3. UFT Prayer on Thursdays at 1.05pm
Join UFT staff and students for a short reflective service of bible readings and prayer in the CTM chapel this coming Thursday at 1.05pm.

4. Victorian Council for Christian Education: ‘Emerging Church’
Darren Cronshaw, a Baptist pastor and missionary, trains leaders and missionaries with the Baptist Union of Victoria and Forge Mission Training Network. He is the author of Credible Witness: Companions, Prophets, Hosts and other Australian Mission Models (UNOH 2006) exploring culturally appropriate ministry in Australia. He will speak on Wednesday 16 September 2009 at VCCE 162 Bay St Port Melbourne 3207 (access via Dow St into Adams Lane). Free car parking available on site RSVP: 9 September 2009 (for purposes of catering). The event will be followed by the VCCE AGM at 2.30pm. Contact: Con Apokis 9646 3572 or office@vcce.org.au

5. MCD Intensive School
The 2009 MCD Intensive School will take place on 30 November – 2 December at the Centre for Theology and Ministry, 1 Morrison Close, Parkville. This intensive will feature the internationally-renowned scholars Professor George Hunsinger (Princeton Theological Seminary) and Dr John Collins (Yarra Theological Union). Dr Mark R. Lindsay (MCD Director of Research) will be the third presenter. The Intensive School has been designed to integrate with the Parliament of World Religions, which is being held in Melbourne from 3-9 December 2009, and is an official pre-Parliament event.  It promises to be a rich experience of engagement with peers and scholars, and an opportunity to engage in learning and dialogue on issues of current concern within the Church and society. The School, while designed for the Advanced Ministry Studies program, is open to the general public, with clergy and others engaged in ministry especially welcome to attend, as an enriching in-service learning experience. Students outside the Ministry Studies stream can take this postgraduate intensive for credit subject to the UFT Dean’s approval. For credit (MCD and external  students): $1200. FEE-HELP is available for eligible students. For non-credit (MCD students): $330.  For non-credit (general public, clergy): $400. 7. The Carmelite Centre
The September programs focus on Social Justice and Loss & Grief. All programs are presented in the O’Connor/Pilkington Rooms, 210-214 Richardson Street Middle Park. Session cost: $10 or $5 concession. ‘Coping with Loss & Grief A pathway to new life’ (Damien Peile), Tuesday 22 September 2009 at 7pm.
‘Wrestling with the Gospel call to Social Justice today’ (Fr Bruce Duncan CSSR), Thursday 24 September 2009 at 7pm. The Carmelite Centre also hosts Meditation: this community of very ordinary people meet in the Malone Room  at The Carmelite Centre on Tuesdays at 7pm. 8. CPE at the Alfred
The Alfred Health and Community formerly Anglican Centre for Clinical Pastoral Education 2010 - 2011 Programs. A wide range of specialized settings is offered in which pastoral ministry placement can be undertaken during the Clinical Pastoral Education unit. Brochures are available from the UFT stand at CTM. 9. Thursday Forums at the University of Melbourne

Thursday 3 September: The search for the ‘real’ Jesus. A report on a quest for the historical Jesus over the past two hundred years. Sean Winter, Professor of New Testament, Uniting Church Centre for Theology and Ministry, Morrison Close, Parkville. Sean is a Baptist Pastor and New Testament scholar, recently arrived from the UK.

Thursday 10 September: Postmodernism and faith: who's afraid of postmodernism?  Exploring the potential conversation between faith and postmodernism, using J.A.K.Smith's short book 'Who's Afraid of Postmodernism' with film. Katharine Massam is Professor of Church History at the Uniting Church Theological College within the Melbourne College of Divinity. Katharine’s research interests focus on the history of Christianity in Australia and in cross-cultural encounter.  She also writes and teaches in the area of Christian spirituality, with a particular interest in the understandings of prayer and work.
