1. UFT Valedictory Service
The UFT Valedictory Service for 2009 will be held at Trinity College Chapel at 3.30pm on Friday 23 October. Students are asked to contact the UFT office if they believe they are eligible to graduate at the MCD Conferral in 2010 and are intending to valedict this year. If students are unsure as to their eligibility to graduate they should contact the UFT office for further advice. Students who would like to help organise the service are invited to contact the UFT office by the end of the week.

2. Theological Students Association
At the TSA’s Annual General Meeting last month, a new committee was elected by students to contribute to student support and student representation on UFT bodies for the next year. We extend our congratulations to Claudine Chionh (President), Esther Crocker (Secretary) and committee member Sidelizio Pereira. The committee would welcome further student volunteers who wish to join the committee. There are specific vacancies for a Treasurer and for a representative from the Uniting Church Theological College, but any and all offers of help would be appreciated.

3. UFT Reconciliation Lecture
On 1 October 2009, Graham Mundine presented a stimulating lecture on his sense of the current place of Aboriginal peoples in state and Church, offering challenges to the churches on their responses to Aboriginal concerns for justice and for inculturated liturgy. About 50 people attended, and over $450 was raised for Nungalinya College. Many thanks to all who participated in organising and supporting this significant annual event.

4. 2010 Handbook
The UFT Handbook for 2010 will be available in hard copy in two weeks’ time. Copies can be collected from the Colleges, the UFT Office, or from the CTM reception area. For those of you who can’t wait that long, the Handbook is already available as a PDF on the UFT website under Important Links > Handbook. The UFT office will be able to accept reenrolments and admissions for 2010 from the beginning of November.

5. 2010 Timetables
The timetable for 2010 has been updated to reflect final changes, you can find the final timetables in the 2010 Handbook or on the UFT website under Important Links > Timetables.

6. Examination Timetable
The examination timetable for semester 2, 2009 is available on the UFT website under Important Links > Timetables.

7. Lecture on Paul
The UFT in association with Monash is proud to present ‘What are they saying about Paul? A Jewish and a Christian Scholar converse’. Brendan Byrne sj (JTC) and Michael Fagenblat (Monash) will discuss Paul on Wednesday 21 October 2009 from 12noon to 1.30pm at G2 in the Centre for Theology and Ministry, 1 Morrison Close, Parkville. 8. Reformation Spiritualities
A day on ‘Reformation Spiritualities’ will be held on Saturday 10 October 2009 10am to 2.30pm, at the Carmelite Library, 214 Richardson Street, Middle Park. Admission $10, BYO lunch. 9. Anti-Poverty Week 2009
The following are just a few examples of how you can get involved in the week.
Some ‘challenges’ for the week that involve everything from no sweatshop shirts to access to TAFE education: http://www.justact.org.au/action-39-fight-poverty/action-39-fight-povert... (check them out and take the challenge). The Victorian Council of Churches have organised an ecumenical service at Melbourne Marthoma Church 149 Royal Parade Parkville on Sunday 11 October at 3pm. St Mary’s House of Welcome (opened by the Daughters of Charity in 1960) will be holding a fiery ‘Great Debate’. Lindy Burnes and other ABC Radio broadcasters will debate alongside the Debaters Association of Victoria to raise awareness of Anti– Poverty Week on Tuesday 27 October 2009 at 6.30 for 7 pm start. Held at the Melbourne Rowing Club – Boathouse St, Melbourne. Tickets $10, seats must be pre-booked by calling Lara on 9417 7985 or email appeal@smhow.org.au. 10. Interfaith Retreat Seminar
