1. Valedictory Service
Many thanks to all students and staff who took part in the UFT Valedictory Service on Friday 23 October. We are grateful to Trinity College for hosting the event, and congratulate those students who are completing their degrees and diplomas this year.

2. UFT Handbook 2010
The UFT Handbook is available in hard copy from the CTM reception area. Copies can be posted to prospective students on request by phoning (03) 9340 8890 or emailing admin@uft.edu.au. The Handbook is also available on the UFT website. Students may wish to try the new unit search engine in the ‘Units’ section of the UFT website which allows them to select their award, the year, and the area they wish to study. Lists of units available for each degree can also be found by selecting the appropriate award on the ‘Courses’ page. Please note there is an error in the printed UFT Handbook for 2010: the unit CT340 Ministry and Sacraments is available to graduate students and a copy of the unit description can be found in the undergraduate section of the Handbook.

3. Re-enrolment for 2010
The UFT office is able to accept re-enrolments as soon as the 2010 enrolment forms are available on the MCD website. An email will be sent to students as soon as the forms are ready. Re-enrolling students are strongly encouraged to re-enrol before Christmas. Students with concerns about their requirements for completing their awards should contact the Dean. Students should note two changes for 2010 re-enrolments: there is now a single form for all re-enrolling coursework students, and (for students not taking FEE-HELP) all upfront fees are now payable to the Melbourne College of Divinity.

4. Dean’s absence and office hours
Peter Sherlock will be away from the UFT office from 13 November to 13 December, undertaking two weeks of research in Oxford, England, followed by some annual leave. He will not be available during that period for student interviews, but can be contacted by email throughout November. Applications for admission and selection of units for re-enrolment during this period can still be organised by emailing him, or by contacting Margaret Tropea in the UFT office. The UFT office will remain open to students from Mondays to Thursdays until 17 December, and will reopen on Monday 4 January 2010.

5. Extensions
Please note that extensions for any assignments must be obtained in advance of the due date. Extensions may be negotiated directly with a lecturer, using the approved form. Applications for late work to be submitted after Thursday 12 November 2009 must be made to the UFT Dean using the Dean’s extension form, which must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate. Lecturers may not approve an extension beyond the 12 November. A Dean’s extension must be applied for and approved in advance of 12 November, and will only be granted where serious unforeseen circumstances exist. Failure to obtain an extension in advance will normally lead to reduction of marks under the UFT policy on late work (this can be found on the UFT website). Copies of the extension form and Dean’s extension form are available on the UFT website under Important Links > Forms from the UFT.

6. Examination Academic Conduct
It is the responsibility of students to ascertain the dates and times at which they are required to attend written examinations, or to perform or submit other components of assessment. Absence or lateness due to misreading the examination timetable or similar error does not entitle a student to any further examination or special consideration. The timetable and venue for semester two examinations can be located on the UFT website www.uft.edu.au >  Important Links > timetables. Students who are required to sit for a written examination are strongly urged to familiarise themselves with the regulations for the conduct of exams. These conditions are set out in the document entitled ‘Examinations Academic Conduct’ on the UFT website www.uft.edu.au under Courses > Assessment > Examinations.

7. Parliament of World Religions Speakers Announced
