1. Second Semester Commencement Details   
Second Semester will commence on Monday 26th July 2010.  The staff of the UFT office would like to take this opportunity to welcome new and returning students and academic staff. Please be sure to acquaint yourself with the timetable and locations at the back of your 2010 handbook or go to the website www.uft.edu.au go to ‘Important Links’ ‘Timetables’: classes in 2010 may be held at the Centre for Theology and Ministry (CTM), at Jesuit Theological College (JTC) or at Trinity College Theological School Old Warden’s Lodge (OWL).  Timetables with room allocations are available on the UFT Notice boards outside the UFT office, DML Library and at CTM, JTC & OWL.

Please remember that if you wish to withdraw from a unit you must do so within in the first two weeks of semester to receive a refund of fees.
 
 
2. Academic Skills Workshops
This semester a series of workshops for students are being offered Thursdays from the 5th August – 9th of September.
The workshops will be held in the Reader Education Room of the Dalton McCaughey Library (at the north end of the second floor) on Thursdays from 2.15pm – 4.15pm. The workshop topics include: Making the Most of Classes, Planning Your Essay, Making the Most of Library Research., Writing Your Essay, Footnotes and Bibliographies, Putting it all Together – and Taking it Apart.
 
Students interested in attending all or some of the sessions must register, and can do so to Kim Anderson at the CTM reception desk, by phone 9340 8890, via email Kim.Anderson@ctm.uca.edu.au or in person. Places are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
 
3. The Theological Students' Association would like to welcome all new and returning students to UFT. The TSA provides formal student representation on the UFT Senatus, its governing body, and on the UFT Academic Board, which has responsibility for the curriculum. The TSA also promotes a sense of community within the student body.  We are holding a student consultation on Tuesday, 17 August, from 1-2pm in CTM Room G4 (you are welcome to bring your lunch). Please come along to share your ideas about student life at UFT. What can students do to strengthen our connections with each other and to make the most of our time at UFT?

4. Broadcasts from the MCD Centenary Conference

5. July 24, 9am – 4.30pm, Bendigo “Refresh” Children & Families Ministry Conference
For those living throughout the North and North West of Victoria, Bendigo “Refresh” is suitable for those in involved with Children and Families ministry in local congregations or local schools. Registration costs $30 or $25 for pensioners/students or groups of 5+. 6. Ben Witherington III: “What was going on in the Pauline communities? A socio-rhetorical view.”
Ben Witherington III is professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary. The author of more than thirty books, including Grace in Galatia and What’s in the Word:Rethinking the Socio-Rhetorical Character of the New Testament, he has twice won the Christianity Today award for one of the best biblical studies books of the year. 7. Semester Two News from Ecumenical Chaplaincy at Melbourne Uni
There are a number of events of each week at Melbourne University during semester 2 as well as occasional events that you are invited to attend.

6th August, 8.15am-9.00am Hiroshima Silent Vigil, concrete lawn east of Union House, 30 minutes of silence, followed by brief readings and conversation.

8. Southern Tasmania – Children & Families Ministry Training Event
Wednesday July 28, 6.30pm - 9.45pm in Hobart North this event features Terry Williams (International Children’s Ministry specialist) and elective leaders from across Australia. It will be an excellent evening for anyone engaged in local church, school or community based ministry.
