1. Census Date enrolments, withdrawals, unit changes
All enrolments must be finalised by Friday 13 August 2010. After that date it will no longer be possible for students to withdraw from a unit in which they are currently enrolled without penalty. Students who withdraw after this date will incur full fees for the semester; students who withdraw within four weeks of the end of semester will normally incur a Fail grade. To withdraw from a unit you must fill in the Change of Enrolment form available from the MCD Website. You can go to http://www.uft.edu.au ‘Important Links’ / Forms from the MCD. This will take you to the ‘Coursework Forms’ on the MCD website. The completed form should be sent to the UFT office for the Dean’s signature and can be left at the UFT office or sent by email, fax or post. If you are concerned about your enrolment status please do not hesitate to contact the UFT office.
2. The Theological Students' Association would like to welcome all new and returning students to UFT. The TSA provides formal student representation on the UFT Senatus, its governing body, and on the UFT Academic Board, which has responsibility for the curriculum. The TSA also promotes a sense of community within the student body. We are holding a student consultation on Tuesday, 17 August, from 1-2pm in CTM Room G4 (you are welcome to bring your lunch). Please come along to share your ideas about student life at UFT. What can students do to strengthen our connections with each other and to make the most of our time at UFT? If you cannot make it on the 17th, we would welcome your suggestions or comment at any time -- they can be emailed to tsa@uft.edu.au.
3. Academic Skills Workshops: New Repeat Sessions on Mondays
This semester a series of workshops for students are being offered Thursdays and then a repeat session on Mondays from the 5th August – 9th of September.
The workshops will be held in the Reader Education Room of the Dalton McCaughey Library (at the north end of the second floor) on Thursdays from 2.15pm – 4.15pm and Mondays 1pm – 3pm. The workshop topics include: Making the Most of Classes, Planning Your Essay, Making the Most of Library Research., Writing Your Essay, Footnotes and Bibliographies, Putting it all Together – and Taking it Apart.
Students interested in attending all or some of the sessions must register, and can do so to Kim Anderson at the CTM reception desk, by phone 9340 8890, via email Kim.Anderson@ctm.uca.edu.au or in person. Places are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
4. Second Semester Research Seminars
Research Seminars for Semester 2 will be running on Wednesdays 1.05pm - 2.00pm, at Trinity College in the Old Warden’s Lodge – South Lecture Theatre. The first seminar for semester 2 will be held on 18 August and Claudine Chionh will talk about Edinburgh 2010: Witnessing to Christ Today. Full details can be found here.
5. Use of the CTM Student Kitchen
Unfortunately we have had several problems in the first week of semester with the student kitchen at CTM being left untidy, and with UFT students taking supplies for use by other groups.
Please remember it is the responsibility of all students in the CTM to keep the kitchen clean. Students must ONLY use the hospitality supplies marked for students in the Student Kitchen, on the bench to the left of the sink. If supplies have run out, please speak to Kim at reception. You may wish to appoint a kitchen monitor each week in your class to ensure the kitchen is clean and tidy at the end of lectures.
The provision of tea, coffee and biscuits in the student kitchen is a gift to students from the UFT. No staff are employed to clean the student kitchen after it has been used, this is the responsibility of students. There are many other groups who make use of the kitchen and wider CTM facilities. Where separate supplies are made available to these groups, they are clearly marked and are not to be used by UFT staff or students.
There are a few students who regularly go above and beyond to keep the kitchen clean and tidy. This is greatly appreciated and thanks for all the cleaning that you do. For health and safety, please ensure that you put the lids back on any food containers, put milk and perishables back in the refrigerator, and put all dirty dishes in the white dishwasher under the sink.
